Las Vegas (NV) Chapter History

In 1974, an interest group was formed under the leadership of Thelma Toms—from San Francisco, where many were familiar with the Links, Incorporated. The Links, Incorporated interest group included Margie Elliott, Margie Collins, Nora Wilson, Lubertha Johnson, Nina Keller, Dorothy West, Thelma Toms, Mabel Hoggard, and Anna Bailey. Two years later, on May 27th 1976, the Las Vegas (NV) Chapter of Links, Incorporated was chartered with the following members at the home of Aetna Perkins: Inez Archie, Anna Bailey, Shirley Barber, Charlotte Cook, Cheryl E Florence, Hazel Jay Gay, A. Roslyn Guy, Pamela Ice, M.D., Barbara Moore, Evelyn O’Gwin, Maggie Pearson,  Aetna Perkins, Lillian Scott, Juanita Smith, Bobbie Troutman, Dorothy West,  Sharon K. Willis, Lois Tabor Ice and organizer Thelma Toms. All shared a common idea, purpose, and the true meaning of the word “Friendship.” Together, the Las Vegas (NV) Chapter and The Las Vegas community have benefited from their efforts.

The Las Vegas (NV) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, continues its dedication to the rich tradition of friendship, commitment, and service. We proudly celebrate 49 years of service and support to the Las Vegas community.

Today, our mission remains the same—to serve our community with quality programming through our five (5) facets: Services to Youth, the Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services. Our chapter has supported the National mission with programming such as mentoring youth that have aged out of foster care, family wellness expos, our annual Walk for Healthy Living, partnering with schools to promote reading comprehension, supporting local youth with scholarships, supporting HBCUs as well collaborating with other community services organization... to name a few.
